Now that the vines are in and have been watered and gotten lots of sunshine for the last month and a half, we have lots of them poking through the grow tubes! It’s looking pretty green out there, now.
One surprising piece of this is that the water bill has blown up on us. The usage went from ~20,000 gallons of usage (our normal home and plant irrigation) to ~80,000 gallons, which doesn’t make a ton of sense. We have two 1 gallon per hour drip nozzles per vine, and it runs for 2 hrs three times per week. That should mean an increase of 2 (nozzles)*2 (hrs)*3 (days)*487 (vines)*4 (weeks) = 23,376 additional gallons per month. Now it is, summer, and we had to refill the pool, but I don’t think that should have accounted for 30,000 gallons. So we need to figure out exactly what’s going on.
Still the grape leaves are beautiful, and they are growing quickly. I’m told that the vines will reach the fourth wire by the end of the growing season. Just have to keep weeding and watering.
